Just in Time for Valentine’s Day – Coyote Mating Season and Some Tips on how to Co-exist

February 8, 2022

Coyote mating season is here, they’re out looking for mates, and you’re much more likely to encounter them when you are out walking. In Our Bedford Backyards, Part 2 ~ CoyotesThe Bedford Citizen – Jan 14, 2020

Most bad encounters with coyotes involve pets.  The advice you’ve heard before is worth repeating.  Keep your dogs on leash.  Don’t let your pets out unsupervised.    Keep your cats and other small pets inside.  It’s important not to habitualize coyotes.   Let them know they’re not welcome around you and your home.

I know when I walk my dog in areas that are known for coyote habitats in town, Hartwell Forest, Springs Brook, etc.,  I carry a small air horn, just in case.   It’s always good to have a plan if you do run into coyotes while you’re out walking with your dog.
