February 9, 2022

The long-time nurse at Fenn School in Concord for more than 10 years has joined the Bedford Health Department as the town’s community health nurse.

Julie Genova began Tuesday, Heidi Porter, Director of Health and Human Services, told the Board of Health at its virtual meeting Monday.

Genova fills a position that has been vacant for nearly six months. The salary offered was increased during that time to attract candidates.

The new employee has “quite a bit of experience working with youth and families and parents and staff,” said Porter. She added that Genova is familiar with the health protocols of the state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. We look to her to be our schools’ liaison.”

This week staff members are acclimating their new colleague not only to the community Covid response but also to other aspects of public-health programming that will continue when the coronavirus is no longer a priority, Porter said.

According to her profile on the LinkedIn platform, Genova was a clinical nurse at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center before her tenure at Fenn. She is a nursing graduate of Boston College.

Porter said that Genova’s arrival means the department will no longer need to engage daily nurse contractors.
