Bedford Schools will Distribute DESE-Supplied Covid Test Kits to Teachers and Staff

December 30, 2021

School officials on Sunday and Monday will be distributing Covid-19 antigen self-test kits to anyone who works in Bedford schools.

The kits, provided free statewide to educators by the state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, will be available for teachers and other school staff members to pick up in a drive-by format Sunday between 10 a.m. and noon at the main entrance to Bedford High School.

Personnel also will be able to obtain kits at each school’s office early on Monday so they can still test before classes begin. “DESE is providing these kits so that we can all test no more than 24 hours prior to returning to school on Monday,” Superintendent of Schools Philip Conrad wrote in a memorandum to faculty and staff.

“These tests are being provided by DESE as a service and while not mandatory, are highly recommended,” Conrad wrote. “This is an opportunity for us to return to school on Monday with confidence in the safety of our schools.”

The test kits are self-administered and take about 15 minutes to execute, Conrad wrote.

He also noted that that DESE is providing KN95 masks, which will be distributed to all faculty and staff through the nurse and front office at each school. That higher level of protection is not required.
