Bedford High School senior Prakhar Gupta is the 2021-22 student representative to the School Committee.
Gupta was formally introduced at Tuesday’s meeting by Superintendent of Schools Philip Conrad. He said the appointment was by the Principal’s Advisory Council, of which Gupta has been a member since ninth grade.
Conrad said the new student representative also was part of the BHS Reopening Team, serves as the class of 2022 representative, and is active with Ground Up, a student activity that promotes balanced and healthy living. The group is part of the BHS Challenge Success Partnership, which is affiliated with Stanford University Graduate School of Education “to embrace a broader definition of success and to implement research-based strategies that promote student well-being and engagement with learning.”
The superintendent also noted that Gupta is “passionate about inclusion, social justice, and equity, “and has been an advocate for the BHS advisory program. He is also a musician.
Committee Chair Sarah Scoville welcomed Gupta and encouraged his participation. “We want to hear your input,” she said.
Conrad did not mention that Gupta covers government meetings as a correspondent for The Bedford Citizen. Last year’s student representative, Ryan Doucette, had the same distinction.
