The Bedford Department of Public Works will work with a contractor, Stantec, to construct a new sidewalk along the east side of South Road from 178 South Road to Evergreen Avenue. The contractor is currently expected to start the week of August 23rd. Work will happen Monday through Friday from 7 am – 5 pm depending on the weather.

The project will feature a 5-foot wide ADA-compliant asphalt sidewalk with a grass strip separating the sidewalk from the road or a vertical granite curb depending on the available right-of-way.
To improve pedestrian safety, push-button-activated pedestrian crossing signals will be installed at the trail to the Hartwell Town Forest and at the Liberty Road/Evergreen Avenue intersection.
