Democratic Town Committee Elects Delegates to State Convention

~ Submitted by the Bedford Democratic Town Committee

A group of enthusiastic Bedford Democrats gathered over Zoom on Wednesday evening July 21st to caucus and to attend a meeting of the Democratic Town Committee. The caucus served to elect a slate of delegates and alternates to this year’s Democratic State Convention. At the Democratic Town Committee meeting, attendees discussed plans for Bedford Day and heard from three candidates for statewide office in 2022.

Bedford Democrats elected seven delegates and one alternate to the convention this year, which will be held in Lowell on September 25th, with an option to attend virtually. The convention will ratify a platform for the state Democratic Party and is also an important opportunity for Democrats across Massachusetts to come together to unite behind our shared values and organize to win up and down the ballot. The elected delegates are Gray Hanegan, Margot Fleischman, Cynthia Lynch, Brown Pulliam, Gyasi Burks-Abbott, John Gibbons, and Bopha Malone. Stephanie Keep was elected as an alternate. Bedford also has ex-officio delegates attending the convention including Shawn Hanegan as DTC Chair, Ken Gordon as State Representative, and Tom Larkin as a Democratic State Committee member.

Following the pause in Bedford Day last year due to COVID restrictions, the Bedford DTC is eager to be back marching in the parade and having a spot at the Bedford Day Fair this year. The DTC heard from both declared candidates for state Auditor, Chris Dempsey, and Diana DiZoglio.  We also heard from Ben Downing who is running for Governor.

The DTC welcomes your participation in our events, whether as a member or an interested person looking to get more involved with progressive and Democratic causes. We are planning a late summer social and expect to meet more candidates for office in the coming months.
