DPW Begins Brush Cutting in July; Deadline to Opt-Out July 1

Starting July 1st, 2021 the Department of Public Works will be cutting back
brush and other vegetation within the public right of way throughout the Town. The purpose is to maintain safe access to Town sidewalks and roadways per the Towns General Bylaws.

The area of cutting may extend to the edge of the public right of way. Any vegetation overhanging a sidewalk or road will be trimmed using a large flail mower attached to an excavator. Note that this type of trimming will not produce a manicured finish to the vegetation. Please be aware that the public right of way in many streets could extend up to approximately 10 feet beyond the edge of the street.

If you would like to perform your own trimming please email the Town at [email protected] with the subject line: Opt-Out Brush clearingon or before July 1. The email should provide your name, telephone number and address.

Any trimming not completed by September 1, 2021 will be completed by the DPW. Please remove any vegetation from sidewalks. It can be brought to the Compost & Recycling Center at 108 Carlisle Road during its regular hours. The schedule for the Compost & Recycling Center is included in this mailing.

Landscape Guidance ~ Be the Solution to Stormwater Pollution!

Your landscaping efforts affect the quality of our rivers and streams. If you use a professional landscape company, please let them know that you care!

Grass clippings should not be left on pavement, where they can be washed into the nearest storm drain system, adding unwanted nutrients to waterways.

Fertilizers and pesticides wash off lawn areas and pollute rivers and streams; use them sparingly and never before a predicted rainstorm.

Avoid over-watering, and keep in mind that organic, slow-release or phosphorus-free fertilizers are best!
