More than half of the juniors and seniors at Bedford High School have been vaccinated for Covid-19, and the sophomores are expected to begin catching up.
Superintendent of Schools Philip Conrad told the School Committee Tuesday that the 11th grade leads with about 60 percent inoculated, with the seniors five percentage points behind.
Sophomores have lower numbers because many of them aren’t 16 yet, he explained, but now that there has been federal approval for vaccinating children beginning at age 12, Conrad expects to see results beginning in sixth grade.
Conrad said he has reached out to the office of the state commissioner of education for guidance on protocols for the coming school year. “The challenge is that medical information is changing rapidly,” he said.
Asked if there will be a vaccination clinic in school, Conrad said that will be determined by the town Health Department.
