BHS Girls Basketball Wins Waltham Game 35-32

February 11, 2021

The Bedford High School girls basketball team Tuesday came out on top in a nail-biter against Waltham with a final score of 35-32.

Trailing 27-20 after three quarters, Waltham staged a ferocious comeback and took a 31-29 lead.  With the game tied at 32 and just 43.1 seconds remaining, Bedford junior Katherine Vaughan was fouled on a layup attempt and made one of two free throws.

That turned out to be the winning point, because, with Bedford pressing, sophomore Sydney Poor came up with a great steal. She was fouled and made both free throws, giving the Bucs a 35-32 lead, for the final score.

The Bucs got off to a hot start, pushing the pace and coming out to a 12-9 lead over Waltham at the end of the first quarter. This continued through the second quarter with the Bucs making massive hustle plays and holding the Hawks to only three points through the quarter. Bedford led 17-12 at halftime and extended the lead to 27-20 after three quarters.
