Boys basketball at BHS on Friday—Weston prevailed, 74-66

Jan. 15, 2021—The presence of Weston’s six-foot, 10-inch center Sawyer Mayhugh proved to be the difference on Friday night, as the standout junior scored 29 points to go with 10 rebounds, as Weston (2-2) defeated Bedford, 74-66, in Dual County League boys’ basketball at the BHS gymnasium.

Senior Imani Jones came off the bench for the Bucs (2-2) and contributed nine points and 10 rebounds, providing a necessary lift in the second half. The Bucs cut a one-time 17-point deficit to just four points in the fourth quarter, but Weston prevailed down the stretch with timely baskets and key defensive stops.

“The thing I love about this team is that you know they will never give up and will continue to fight from tip to buzzer,” Bedford coach Ryan Kilian said. “We just need to continue to work hard each day at practice, grow together as a team, and execute at key parts of games.”

Juniors Max Alper (11 points, six rebounds, eight assists, and four steals), Matty Forman (12 points, seven rebounds), Bryan Aweh-Kisob (15 points, five rebounds), and senior Matt Mulligan (14 points) led the way for Bedford on Friday night.

Bedford gets back on the hardwood on Tuesday, when they host first-place Wayland (2-0) at 4:30 p.m. Bedford will then travel to Wayland on Friday, as a part of the 2020-2021 season’s home-and-home weekly series.
