Bucs win Home Opener and Travel to Waltham for Friday’s Game 2 of the Home and Home Opening Week

January 8, 2021

Junior Max Alper scored 13 points and added five steals to lead a balanced team effort on opening night, as Bedford High School defeated Waltham, 53-36, in an empty BHS gym.

The Bucs built a 27-10 lead at the half and never looked back, as junior guards Bryan Aweh-Kisob and Jacori McNeil helped pace an aggressive offensive and defensive attack. Junior Jamie Buchannan and senior Matt Mulligan also had strong games for Bedford, which had nine players in the scoring column.

The teams—as seen on Bedford TV—didn’t appear to be compromised by the changes in rules and atmosphere in response to the Covid-19 threat. Players not on the court were spread through the bleachers. Everyone wore masks and officials managed on-court adjustments designed for safety, such as clearing the lane before free throws.

Second-year Coach Ryan Kilian’s Buccaneers will travel to Waltham on Friday night for the second game of the home and home-opening week. Tip time is scheduled for 7:15 pm.
