October 27, 2020 Update Summary
- One (1) new COVID-19 positive case at BHS (Case #14) has been identified.
- Close contacts of Case #14 have been identified by contact tracers, and are being instructed to quarantine.
- There are currently seventeen (17) quarantined close contacts of the BHS COVID-19 positive cases identified to date. This number is unchanged from yesterday, due to Case #14’s in-school close contacts being common with those of a previously identified positive BHS case.
- As of today, there are six (6) active COVID-19 positive cases in the BHS Community, and eight (8) cases have recovered.
Today [Tuesday, October 27], I was informed by the Bedford Board of Health of a 14th Case of COVID-19 within the Bedford High School (BHS) Community since the start of school in mid-September. Case #14 is now in isolation at home. Investigations revealed that the case was present in school during their infectious period. Close contacts were identified and instructed to quarantine for fourteen (14) days after the last exposure to Case #14.
As of today, October 27, Case #14 is one (1) of five (5) currently active COVID-19 cases at BHS. There are currently seventeen (17) quarantined close contacts of the BHS COVID-19 positive cases identified to date. It should be noted, in-school close contacts of Case #14 were common to a previous BHS positive case, already in quarantine, and, as such, did not impact the current number of quarantined BHS community members, which remains at seventeen (17).

We remind parents/guardians/caregivers that it is imperative that all Bedford Public School students be evaluated for symptoms of COVID-19 each day before sending them off to school. Teachers and school staff are required to do the same self-evaluation for symptoms. These measures, taken in combination, greatly reduce the risk of transmission.
We will continue to be vigilant in adhering to all of the protocols that have been put in place in an effort to continue in-person learning via our current hybrid model. We are also providing remote learning for all students required to quarantine at home to continue to provide instruction, structure, and an emotional connection to the classroom during a time that we know will be challenging for those children and families involved.
