Rep. Seth Moulton Announces Appointments to the Nation’s Military Service Academies in the Class of 2024

Representative Seth Moulton announced five candidates from Massachusetts’ Sixth Congressional District have accepted appointments at one of the nation’s military service academies. A video announcement from Rep. Moulton is available here.

United States Naval Academy

  • Kai Chun, Bedford High School Class of 2020 ~ Chun was a member of the National Honor Society, a School Committee board member, and has graduated from RYLA, the Rotary Youth Leadership initiative. He was also the captain of the BHS gymnastics team, president of the Asian-American club, and founder of the Ground Up Initiative, a platform for students to get together to discuss and solve problems in school.
  • Benjamin Grunes, St. John’s Preparatory School Class of 2020 – Grunes was a Billerica resident. He was co-president of St. John’s Prep’s Honor Society, captain of the school’s varsity lacrosse team, captain of the freshman football team, and an active member of the swim team.

United States Military Academy

  • Jasmin Yannix, Bedford High School Class of 2020 ~ Yannix was a member of the BHS Service Leaders Club and ROTC program where she has been featured as Cadet of the Month. She plays Intramural Volleyball, twice serving as team captain and also volunteers as a physics tutor and music education mentor.
  • Evan Symes, St. John’s Preparatory School Class of 2020 ~ Symes is a Rockport resident.  Symmes was an active member of the St. John’s Prep Leadership Institute and student mentor program. He is also a student orientation leader and captain of his school’s sailing and ski teams.

The United States Air Force Academy

  • Kyle McCarthy, Lynn Classical High School. McCarthy was an active member of his school’s varsity golf, track and field, and indoor track teams, serving as a captain of all three teams.

About the Service Academies Admission Process
These students were nominated to the Service Academies, following a rigorous vetting process last fall. Moulton’s congressional office convenes a panel of professionals with careers in the armed forces as well as Service Academy graduates to carry out the nomination process.
