Letter to the Editor: It is Time to Open Bedford’s Tennis Courts

May 11, 2020

Submitted by Jim O’Neil

I recommend that Bedford open the high school tennis courts on a limited basis with on-site supervision to provide some exercise for our citizens. The high school facility includes a tennis backboard suitable for one player, a singles court good for two or four players from a self-quarantining group, and two doubles court which could be made available for one game each.   The town could offer on-line registration or first come first served.

The town should be able to provide a town employee in a town vehicle to check in those players using a cellphone. The cell phone number could be shown on the side of the vehicle, so no contact is needed. The courts could be open when the weather is good for playing. Hours could be limited similar to the recycling center. Some evening hours should also be offered.
