ACTIVE CASES

As of today, April 15, 2020, there have been a total of sixty-four (64) positive cases of Covid-19 reported in Bedford and two (2) deaths reported to the Town of Bedford Board of Health by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MA DPH). The total case number includes residents of the Town of Bedford, Hanscom Air Force Base and the Bedford Veteran’s Administration (VA) Campus as reported to us by the MA DPH.  Ten (10) of the total Bedford cases have already recovered and have come off of isolation and there is currently one (1) known Person Under Investigation. There are other individuals impacted by Covid-19 in the community that have not sought medical attention, and/or have not been tested and are isolating at home regardless. Those individuals do not appear on the surveillance reports the Town receives from the MA DPH.

The Board of Health continues to do the appropriate follow-up and outreach to those residents and close contacts known to us and the VA reports they are conducting follow-up and contact tracing of the Veteran’s under their care. The VA prepares periodic reports of total numbers of Covid-19 positive Veterans at their various facilities, including the Bedford VA.

IMPORTANT UPDATES

The Town of Bedford is pleased to see many residents following advisories from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and are wearing and/or using personal protective equipment (PPE) when they must leave their home for essential needs. While protecting yourself amid the coronavirus outbreak is an important component of slowing the spread of Covid-19, it is equally important to protect others and the environment by properly disposing of this PPE. If you are using and discarding masks, gloves, sanitizing wipes, etc. after use, please do not litter.

It is good practice to keep a plastic bag in the trunk or backseat of your vehicle to use as a trash bag for collection of used PPE. Place any PPE directly into this bag after use and discard properly in your residential trash container when you return home. Many shopping stores also have trash barrels available as well. It is illegal to litter and littering from a motor vehicle may result in a fine. Please be considerate of your neighbors in Bedford and properly discard of these materials when you are done using them.
