Submitted by Bedford Mother’s Out Front
The members of Mothers Out Front in Bedford commend Representative Kenneth I. Gordon for his recent Op-Ed in the Bedford Citizen, “ Climate Change Is Undeniable” (Sept. 30). Putting a price on carbon pollution is widely perceived as an effective and efficient way to curb carbon emissions in the House bill (H.2810), introduced by Rep. Jennifer Benson of Lunenberg, is one of four bills that Mothers Out Front considers their highest priorities.
We also want to express our appreciation for the work that he has done, and continues to do, to pass other legislation to protect our environment and lead us away from dependence on fossil fuels. In addition to his support for putting a price on carbon pollution, Rep. Gordon is the primary sponsor of H.2864, “An Act protecting ratepayers from gas pipeline expansion costs.” If passed, this bill will codify into Massachusetts law the ruling that the SJC (State Judicial Court) made in 2016 forbidding utility companies to charge ratepayers for the costs of expanding the gas pipeline infrastructure.
In addition, Rep. Gordon has co-sponsored over 30 other environment- and climate-related bills, including several which Mothers Out Front and our allies in the Mass Power Forward coalition support. Bedford is fortunate to have two legislators in the State House, Rep. Gordon and Senator Michael Barrett, who are both strong advocates for climate action.
Representative Gordon is to be applauded for making himself available on a monthly basis to meet with constituents. Members of our local Mothers Out Front team have enjoyed these opportunities to talk with him about our concerns.
Rep. Gordon and his family live in Bedford, and they have taken actions as a family to protect our planet, such as the installation of solar panels on their rooftop! In both his professional and his personal life, Rep. Gordon works to protect our community, our environment, and our planet. Thank-you, Rep. Gordon!
