Letter to the Editor: Trick or Treating and EEE ~ What Happens at 6:01?

October 30, 2019

Submitted by Mariah Tumbleson-Shaw

I’m getting mixed messages about Trick or Treating.

I understand that the Town of Bedford is exhibiting caution around EEE and dusk/dawn activities. However, strongly implying that Trick or Treating will be completely done at 6:00 pm is a bit tone-deaf toward working parents who are already struggling to get home in time to help their children enjoy the holiday.

We are able to start by 5:45, which already means leaving work an hour early, and I’m fearful that my daughter will only have 15 minutes of fun.

I’ve seen language from the Town that is merely cautionary, but language from the Bedford Citizen that is more directed and seems to be telling parents that Halloween WILL end at 6:00 pm sharp. What am I to believe?

More importantly, where may I take my child at 6:01 when all the lights go out?

I welcome clarification and insights.

Thank you!
