Irving R. Smith passed away on September 1, 2019. A Bedford resident since 1969, Mr. Smith retired from MITRE after 28 years of service but will be best remembered in Bedford for his role in the community. He belonged to or helped create several local civic organizations including the Bedford Council on Human Relations, Concerned Black Citizens of Bedford (CBCB), and advocated for fair housing in Bedford’s early initiatives.
A memorial service will be held on October 26, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. at The First Baptist Church of Bedford, 155 Concord Road, Bedford, MA 01730.
