Bedford’s Babe Ruth Baseball’s White team (13-14-year-old boys) captured their Middlesex Baseball League Championship on Friday, June 21.  They defeated three higher seeded teams in the playoffs to win the title.

Bedford entered the playoffs with a 7-5-1 regular season record.  They defeated Medford Blue in the opener 13-3, the Arlington Marlins 10-0, and Arlington Red Sox 5-3 in 8 innings in the final.  Bedford used strong starting pitching, solid defense, and timely hitting to win the league playoffs.

Will Hickey and Wynn Sheridan both pitched three solid innings in the opener, a 13-3 victory over Medford Blue at a soggy Victory field in Watertown.  James Naylor had a single and scored a run; Sheridan added three hits, scoring each time; Anthony O’Brien had two singles and scored twice;  Owen Carroll had a triple and scored two runs; Liam Henning added a run-scoring single.

Strong starting pitching was again the key in a 10-0 win over the Arlington Marlins (12-2) at Victory Field.  Will Hickey and James Naylor combined to strike out 7 of the 16 batters they faced in 5 innings of work.  Bedford broke the game open with eight runs in the 4th inning.  Justin Liberman and Josh Garraway singled and scored, Mihir Vaze and Nelson Crawford also scored in the 4th.  Crawford returned from the injured list to provide solid catching.  Dan Randhahn added a single in the win.

Bedford White 5, Arlington Red Sox 3 – The Championship Game

The Red Sox (12-2) hosted Bedford at Robillard Field on Friday for the championship.  Again, pitching was the key.  Will Hickey started with three solid innings, and James Naylor finished the game with five very strong innings, each pitcher had four strikeouts.  Hits and runs were at a premium in this low scoring affair.

Ricky LaBoy had a single in the leadoff spot and played solid outfield defense.  Wynn Sheridan made two key catches in center field late in the game to keep it close, Nelson Crawford was again solid behind the plate, and Ryan Touri reached base twice for the Bucs.  Bedford also turned in a pair of key double plays to keep Arlington off the scoreboard with Mihir Vaze, instrumental in those.

The team was coached by Ken Sheridan, Gaylord Garraway, Rob Hickey, and Craig Naylor.
