In late March, resident Jeff Udell was the first person to test to the newly-installed ChargePoint electric vehicle charging station at Davis School. After he shared his images with The Bedford Citizen, Facilities Director Taissir Alani shared some background on the installations.

Once the concept of adding electric charging stations on Town-owned property was approved by the Selectmen and the School Committee, seven electric vehicle charging stations were purchased through a cost-sharing program administered by the Massachusetts  Department of Environmental Resources’ EVIP program. Underground wiring for the units was provided free of charge by Eversource.

The units now belong to the Town of Bedford and charging is free to users. Alani said that charging station use will be tracked, and in the future, the existing wiring can support up to six stations should they become popular and heavily used.

There are a pair of charging stations at Town Hall, and another pair located between Bedford High School and the Library. Single units have been installed at Davis School, Lane School, and John Glenn Middle School’s parking lot on McMahon Road.
