The Shawsheen Valley Regional Vocational Technical School Committee is deeply regretful to announce that it has received a letter of resignation of Mr. Timothy Broadrick, who has served admirably as its Superintendent-Director for more than three years.
Mr. Broadrick, who started his career as a teacher in the District in 2004, has notified the committee that he is currently negotiating a contract with a comprehensive school district in New Hampshire. He has acted swiftly to give notice of his intention to leave Shawsheen Tech, in his words, “in order to provide as much notice as possible for an orderly transition.”
In his letter of resignation, Mr. Broadrick wrote, “Many in our community know that I have previously expressed interest in making a transition from the world of vocational schools into the K-12· comprehensive school arena. I am pursuing a path that will afford me that opportunity while also allowing me the time and opportunity to complete a doctoral degree during the next few years.”
Mr. Broadrick and the Committee are working together to create a plan that will allow the District to appoint an interim to guide the District during its transition to a new superintendent. Although Mr. Broadrick is available to remain in the District for the rest of the school year, both parties agree that an interim solution is likely to benefit the District, as Mr. Broadrick anticipates starting in his next role by July 1st, and it is unlikely that a complete search of a new Superintendent could be started and completed by that date.
Since his appointment, the District has completed substantial facilities expansion and renovation projects, including the construction of a new outdoor athletic campus, renovation of the high school’s swimming pool, security upgrades to the high school building, installation of a new fire alarm system, and nearly $1 million in grant-funded equipment purchases. In the areas of curriculum and instruction, the school has added electives to its academic schedule, and this year students began enrolling in dual enrollment courses with Middlesex Community College.
