Photographs from Faces of Bedford, a 2006 project by the Violence Prevention Coalition, will be on display along the art wing corridor at Bedford High School from 5:30 to 7 pm before Annual Town Meeting on Monday, March 25.
Photographers Holly Bloomfield and Jan van Steenwijk focused on 30 Bedford families of all types: people who had grown up in Bedford and chose to raise their own families here, alongside more recent additions to the community.
The families represent a variety of races, generations, educational backgrounds, economic backgrounds, and belief systems. They encompass some of Bedford’s overlooked groups, as well as people who were driving forces in the town. The images celebrate diversity as a part of what makes Bedford such a warm, welcoming, and accepting place to live. Much has changed in Bedford in 13 years, and our community has become even more diverse.
The original Faces of Bedford project was funded in part by the Bedford Cultural Council, a local agency supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency. It was part of the Anti-Defamation League’s then-current No Place for Hate program, and was supported by a grant made possible through the generosity of their program sponsor, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts.
