The Bedford Boys 8th-grade White travel basketball team captured their Metrowest League Division Championship on Sunday, March 10. Fourth-seeded Bedford defeated second-seeded Natick, 36-27, at the Dana Barros Basketball Club in Stoughton. This is the second year in a row this team has won a division championship.
Luca Melfi led all scorers in the championship game with 13 points. Andrew Tram added 8, Chris Woo 6 and Wynn Sheridan had a 3 pointer. Owen Brazee and Austin Cullis also scored in the win and Cullis added great defense and rebounding. Mihir Vaze, Anirudh Kumar, Rudra Parvate, Adam Capobianco and Evan Kenahan also played key roles in the team’s best defensive performance of the season.
The Bucs defeated three teams in convincing fashion on their way to the title. 68-25 over Reading, 48-19 over Belmont and 45-33 over Dedham. Wynn Sheridan led all scorers versus Reading with 15 points and all 11 Bedford players scored in the game. Luca Melfi and Andrew Tram both had 9 points versus Belmont with 10 of 11 players scoring. And Austin Cullis led all scorers in the Dedham game with 8 points.
