On the Strings of Giants: Music for Violin & Guitar ~ A World of Music Concert at Middlesex Community College

A World of Music, Middlesex Community College’s 2018 spring concert series, begins with “On the Strings of Giants: Music for Violin & Guitar,” to be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 4, in MCC’s Concert Hall (Building 6), on the Bedford campus, 591 Springs Road. The concert is free and open to the public.

Faculty member Raley Beggs, guitar, will be joined by Celia Zhang, violin. They will pluck or bow their way through some of the most profound works for violin and guitar by composers Nicolo Paganini, Johann Sebastian Bach, Astor Piazzolla,  Domenico Scarlatti and Luigi Legnani.

Beggs earned a bachelor of music degree at Florida State University and a master of music degree from New England Conservatory of Music. He teaches and performs widely throughout the Boston area as a soloist and chamber musician. He joined the MCC music faculty in 2016.

Zhang made her solo debut with the Louisville Orchestra at age 14. She earned a bachelor’s degree in violin performance from the Juilliard School in 2014 and a master’s from the Yale School of Music in 2016. She has performed throughout the United States, China, and Europe.

Other upcoming concerts in A World of Music include “Art Made Audible” at 8 p.m. Friday, March 16, in the Bedford campus Concert Hall; and “Poetry Through Music – With a Focus on Robert Pinsky,” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 20, in MCC’s Federal Building Assembly Room on the Lowell campus. A Student Recital will also be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday, May 7, in the Bedford campus Concert Hall.
