Five Pins in One Night Ends Bedford/Minuteman’s Home Season

January 26, 2018

By Jeff JHO Hoyland

Wednesday night was Bedford/Minuteman’s senior night for the season. They started by honoring our senior athletes and their families for their contribution to the team.

Vinney Butera is the heavyweight and he’s been wrestling for 6 years. He is currently enrolled at Minuteman. The other senior was Mason Otte. This is his first year wrestling.

Bedford/Minuteman tied Weston/Waltham 36-36. The “winning by pinning” wrestlers were:

Junior, Emmet O’Brien  at the 132 lb weight class. This is Emmet’s first year wrestling, he has grown tremendously throughout the year.

Sophomore, Collin Griffiths at the 152 lb weight class. This is his second year wrestling. He’s one of the core wrestlers and is one of my hardest workers.

Junior, Ian Griffiths, normally, at the 160 lb weight class, actually wrestled up at the 170 lb weight class this meet.  This is his third year wrestling. He is also one of the hardest working athletes and it has shown. He is currently undefeated in the DCL.

Senior, Vinney Butera at the heavyweight class. This is Vinney’s 6th year wrestling. He went to states in 2017 and took 6th place. He’s the most experienced wrestler and is integral in helping develop the higher weight class wrestlers.

Sophomore, Jonathan Pierre at the 152 lb weight class. This is Jonathan’s first year wrestling. That was actually his first win. He shows a lot of promise and has a lot of room to grow. He has great work ethic and will be a contender to watch in the years to come. .  (you heard it here first)

The wrestling team next meet is on Saturday at 10 AM at Malden Catholic.
