Bedford High Social Studies Department proudly showcased the latest projects for History Day. The projects are part of Mr. Sunderland and Mr. Culhane’s high honors Modern American history classes.

Since September, students have engaged in the process of discovery and interpretation of historical topics related to the theme of  “Conflict & Compromise in History”.

Projects were judged by BHS Class of 2018 students who competed last year.  This is like a “dress rehearsal” for competition in the National History Day Program.

The projects are modeled on the National History Day (NHD) program. NHD is an annual initiative designed to promote the teaching and learning of history.  The core of the program is a nationwide National History Day competition. Some of the projects presented here will go on to represent Bedford High School in the district, and, hopefully, state and national competitions.

National History Day Competition Dates:

  • Central Massachusetts District Competition: Saturday, March 3 at Quabbin Middle High School, Barre, MA
  • Massachusetts State Competition: Saturday, April 7 at Winchester High School, Winchester, MA
  • National Competition: June 10-14 at University of Maryland, College Park, MD
