The Town groups worked jointly to organize the program and obtain supplies, then the Scouts filled the buckets and delivered them to the homes of the seniors for their use this winter.
Boy Scouts have a long history of community service. Scouting was brought to the U.S. in the early 1900’s by Chicago publisher William D. Boyce. Having lost his way in a dense London fog, a boy, later identified as a Scout, came to his aid and guided him. The Scout explained he was doing “a Good Turn,” the act of Scouts trying to do a good deed daily. By assisting these seniors Thomas and Quinn continue this service of doing “a Good Turn,”which goes back over 100 years.
