Bedford Boys Basketball has some lofty goals this season, beginning and ending with teamwork.
The Bucs opened their season at home against Southbridge. From the tip-off, BHS showed teamwork was key as senior Casey Millar tipped the ball to senior Jack Cowan, who threw the ball to the rim, where sophomore Malachi Hazelton slammed the ball home for the first two points of the game.
The Bucs jumped out to a 22-10 lead after the first quarter through crisp passing and total domination of the boards. Bedford had a comfortable lead at halftime, 51-19, and Coach Vin McGrath was able to substitute a lot of the new Varsity players

This year’s team has four seniors: captain Jack Cowan, Toby Hart, Anton Lucas, and Casey Millar. Returning letterman juniors Pete Kapanides and Rahim Williams showed Bedford is a force to be reckoned with in the Dual County League. The team will also feature four sophomores — Malachi Hazelton, Jeffrey Mascoli, Ibrahim Muhammad-Denson, and Christopher Venuti — as Bedford depth chart is deep.
Most student/athletes in Bedford are “three season” players. This year’s surprise was senior Toby Hart. He quickly became the “Fans in the Stands” favorite.
The next boys basketball game is against Newton South at 5:30 PM on Tuesday, December 12 at the BHS gym.
