Bedford organizations will honor the memory of Martin Luther King’s commitment to community and service in many ways this weekend.

Friday, January 13

  • Bedford TV Goes Live – During a studio marathon from noon to 7 pm, Bedford TV will live-stream activities from Old Town Hall, middle school students who have been studying video production at the station will be among the cast and crew for the event.

  • Kids for Ethiopia – Celebrate Ethiopian culture with Bedford third-grader Ermiyas Johnson, his family and friends at this fundraiser to help build a home for Ermi’s relatives in Ethiopia. Dance with Ermi’s dance troupe Mama Ethiopia, sample Ethiopian food, with a special Ethiopian coffee ceremony for parents.
  • West Virginia Mountain Festival at First Church of Christ  – An afternoon and evening of Appalachian music and storytelling, a Southern-inspired buffet dinner, cake walk, arts & crafts sale featuring handmade items from West Virginia, and a wide variety of children’s activities. All proceeds from the festival will fund First Church’s humanitarian mission work in West Virginia.

  • Community Breakfast sponsored by Bedford Embraces Diversity – “Celebrating MLK’s Vision Together,” the town’s first Martin Luther King Jr. Day unity breakfast, will feature music by Jalen Williams, speakers Kyle Draper, Bedford resident and sports broadcasting personality; Reginald Nichols, assistant human resources director at Middlesex Community College; Chief of Police Robert Bongiorno; and resident Rachel Murphy, who experienced the Civil Rights Movement first-hand.   • Town offices will be closed, and trash/recycling collection will be delayed until Tuesday
