At their meeting this week a Planning Board member mentioned hearing that contractors have begun to fit out the future home of the Bedford Post Office. The designated space is next to Bruegger’s at the Bedford Marketplace.
The Bedford Citizen checked with code enforcement director Chris Laskey and learned, “The building permit to fit out the Post Office space was issued on December 1, 2016. Work is progressing in the space and some rough inspections have been performed.”
Stephen J. Doherty of the US Postal Service confirmed, “[The construction] is progressing well and we’re eagerly awaiting the opportunity to celebrate our grand re-opening with the town.”
Earlier today, workmen were busy in the space but the opening date has not been released.
We will once again have indoor counter service in Bedford, however be aware, unlike our previous postal building this one will not have space to sort & process our mail, so it will continue to be routed to, and distributed from, the Burlington P.O. (as it currently is now). For some time I have noticed some delays in the timeliness of mail arrival and receipt by intended recipients. Plan accordingly.
Great news! Bedford needs a full service Post Office.
