On Saturday evening, December 3 Bedford will hold its second Winter Walkabout in conjunction with the Town’s annual Tree Lighting festivities.  Town departments – Recreation, Economic Development, and Healthy Bedford — in collaboration with the Bedford Chamber of Commerce, invite you to stroll around Town Center, enjoy the lights, shop and dine local while celebrating the arrival of winter in Bedford.  Click here to view or print the official event poster.

There will be a flurry of activities to encourage everyone to stroll, shop, savor, and socialize as they kick off the winter season.

Shop and Dine Local during the Walkabout

The Walkabout is scheduled from 3 to 6 pm, with participating businesses offering refreshments or other treats, either within their stores, or in the Great Room at Old Town Hall.

Several participating stores are just a short walk from the Common: Clayful Expressions, 14 Springs Road, offering treats and an Open Studio; Corner Antiques, at two locations, 53 Great Road and 52-53r Great Road, offering a store discount; Barrett Sotheby’s International Realty of Bedford, 49 Great Road, offering free family photos with Santa by photographer Shannon Dillon of Creative Images and chili supplied by Red Heat Tavern; KB Jewelers, 68 Great Road, offering treats, raffles for a Celtics item and a handmade silver pendant, plus a 20% discount on all silver jewelry; Wearovers, 119 Great Road, offering treats, discounts/gifts with purchase and a gift certificate drawing; and Suzanne and Company, 90 Great Road, offering treats.

Businesses exhibiting their wares in the Great Room at Old Town Hall include Great Road Gallery, Servepro, Elite Freestyle, Middlesex Community College, Quinstance, Stories with A Heart Video, and Gorgeous Et al. Each will offer refreshments or other incentives.

Kids’ Activities and Tree Lighting on Bedford Common

“Johnny the K” will present a free, one-hour concert in the Bedford High School auditorium at 3:15 pm.  According to his website, “[Johnny’s] dynamic and inspiring programs for young audiences (as well as Moms, Dads, and Grandparents) balance timely messages of environmental conservation, cultural diversity, positive behavior, self-esteem, and drug abuse awareness with music, dialogue, visual props, and lots of audience participation.”  www.Johnnythek.com

Families will want to hurry to Bedford Common after the concert because Kamate Fitness will present Rockin’ on the Common, a while-you-wait warm-up with festive music, at 4:30 pm.

The Tree Lighting Countdown will begin at 5 pm. Citizen of the Year Julie Turner will flip the switch, the trees on the Common will glow, and a special visitor from the North Pole will arrive atop the Bedford Fire Department’s Engine One. There will be treats, and warm wishes for a joyous holiday season.

Join friends and family as we enjoy this much anticipated and newly expanded community tradition! Watch for details on the town webpage www.bedfordma.gov, Economic Development Twitter @BedfordMABiz, and on Facebook at Healthy Bedford.
