Mary Kalb, a 2015 Bedford High School graduate and now a student at Hamilton College, is passionate about video making. She has formed her own venture, MMK Productions, and is offering her expertise to the community to video weddings, family celebrations, birthdays and other special occasions.

No novice, Mary began her video experience in high school, producing banquet, fundraising, and promotional videos for clubs and local businesses. An early success was the video she made for local realtor Suzanne Koller’s 2014 Holiday House Tour.

She also filmed and edited an application bid for Bedford Best Buddies National Chapter of the Year application, which helped the chapter win a national award. Click to watch.

She gained further experience over the past few years making promotional videos for coaches at summer field hockey camps.  A player herself, Mary captained the BHS field hockey team in her senior year.

During her first year at Hamilton, she began working for the college’s Sports Information Department, making videos for various teams with the goal of attracting potential student athletes to the school.

Mary says her interest in videography started when her dad, Gene, acquired his first Mac computer and she learned to edit film. She says she loves the way video can tell in a story in a way other mediums cannot.  Her goal is to capture the emotion of a story, whether for promoting a sports team, a new business, or a family gathering. As she describes it, filming is one skill but the “edit” function is equally important to a successful finished product.  She feels her talent is in turning raw footage into a completed video that captures the energy and spirt of the event.

Where will her video interest take her in the future?  For now, Mary is focusing on her college studies with an eye to majoring in government.  Oh yes, she also has a summer “day job,” in addition to video work: you’ll see her as a hostess at Red Heat Tavern.
