The Bedford Education Foundation (BEF) has been raising money for Bedford Public Schools to fund teacher’s innovative and creative ideas since 2008. The BEF includes a student board, run by high school volunteers, that follows the same mission but on a smaller scale.
The BEF Student Board spends most of the school year organizing fundraising events which link high schoolers to the elementary and middle schools; events such as the JGMS Basketball Tournament, Lane After School Sports, and Davis Arts & Crafts.
The BEF Student Board conducts its own grant cycle and matches grants up to $500 to teachers with exciting ideas. In addition to providing support for creativity and innovation in education, the BEF Student Board is a way for Bedford’s high schoolers to learn leadership qualities, organizational skills, and give back to their school system.
The BEF Student Board is currently looking for a new adult advisor. Prospective volunteers must be able to attend meetings the first Wednesday of every month during the school year at 1 pm at BHS, occasionally come to fundraising events, and be available to advise over email. A small time commitment, the position of adult advisor is integral to the student board, because it is run by new high schoolers every year with little previous experience.
