Bedford Schools LogoTwenty-three Bedford middle and high school students were chosen to participate in this year’s Massachusetts Music Educators Association Senior and Junior District festivals, as well as the All-State festival. The district and All-State music festivals are musical enrichment opportunities sponsored by teachers who are members of the Massachusetts Music Educators Association. Students in instrumental and vocal music are chosen by audition for the chance to participate in several days of rehearsal with renowned clinicians. The festivals culminate in concert performances of demanding literature for symphony orchestra, concert band, and choral ensembles.

Last November, student musicians in grades 9–12 from across the Greater Boston area auditioned for the Massachusetts Eastern Senior District Music Festival. Out of more than a thousand auditionees, nine Bedford students were accepted into the festival, which was held on January 9 at Boston Latin School.

On January 23, auditions were held for the All-State Festival, which draws high-school musicians from the entire state. The All-State Festival will be held on March 11 and 12 at the Seaport Hotel/World Trade Center in Boston. BHS juniors Matthew Bridgeman and Chloe DeMello were selected for the All-State Chorus, and junior Hannah Rubin was selected for the All-State Orchestra. The All-State Concert will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, March 12, at Symphony Hall, 301 Massachusetts Avenue, in Boston. .

Congratulations to all students who tried out. Auditioning for the festival requires long hours of dedicated practice in preparation of a solo, as well as a test of sight reading and scale performance ability. Adjudicators are respected professional musicians who are specialists in their field.
