BPDpatchChief Robert Bongiorno has reported that over the weekend the Bedford Police Department arrested two men who were allegedly involved in shoplifting and receiving stolen property.

Just before 7 pm on Saturday December 26, an employee from Marshalls on The Great Road reported that someone had shoplifted merchandise and then fled the store. The shoplifting suspect and another man were seen in a surveillance video leaving the store and getting into a jeep; a vehicle check by the police determined that the jeep had been reported as stolen out of Boston six days earlier.

According to Chief Bongiorno in a telephone interview on December 29, the shoplifting report was delivered in person to an officer in a marked cruiser on patrol in the Bedford Marketplace as part of the Department’s Pro-Active Community Engagement (P.A.C.E.) initiative, now in its second year of vigilance against holiday crime in Bedford shopping areas. Saturday’s arrest is further evidence of the P.A.C.E. program’s success.Officers located a suspect, later identified as Raymond Castillo, 35, of Cambridge, at the Bedford Motel, 30 North Road. He was arrested and charged with Shoplifting.

Shortly before 7:30 pm on Sunday, December 27, Bedford police located Keith Hosea, 35, of Quincy. Through an investigation, they were able to tie him to the jeep seen at Marshalls. Hosea was charged with Receiving A Stolen Motor Vehicle.

Castillo and Hosea were held at the Bedford Police Department pending their arraignment at Concord District Court on Monday, December 28.

“This is an active and open investigation,” Chief Bongiorno reaffirmed on Tuesday morning. “I would like to commend all Bedford police officers involved in this incident for a job well done.”

All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
