It’s that time of year when the “harvest” of leaves seems never ending. Bedford residents have two opportunities to get their leaves relocated to the town’s Compost Center on 108 Carlisle Road.

Final Week of Curbside Collection

Next week (Nov. 23-27), is the final week of curbside collection of yard waste. Leaves and other yard waste must be in the tall paper bags or open barrels with no lids. Yard waste in plastic bags will not be picked up.

Carlisle Road Compost Center Drop Off

The second option for Bedford residents is to bring their yard waste to the Compost Center on Saturday November 21, and Saturday, November 28 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. If you drop off your yard waste at the Compost Center, you can use tall paper bags or other containers. If you use plastic bags, please empty the bags and take the bags home. Plastic bags don’t break down in a compost pile.

If all else fails, another option is to start a compost pile in your yard. Check out https://www.mass.gov/eea/docs/dep/recycle/reduce/06-thru-l/composti.pdf or https://www.mass.gov/eea/docs/dep/recycle/cmppstr.pdf for more information. Compost bins are available at the DPW for $45.
