Emerging local children’s author G. Johnson is an independent publisher, a mother of two, and a staff-member known as Gemmesa Mercado at the Bedford Board of Health.

G. Johnson released her first children’s book, Seacoo, in August with a reading at the Franklin Park Zoo. She will read from the book, followed by a book signing and a discussion with activities for children and parents, at the Barnes and Noble store at 98 Middlesex Turnpike, Burlington, from 11 am until 1 pm on Saturday, November 7.

Seacoo is the heartwarming tale of an adorable panda bear cub with a passion for reading who learns valuable lessons about friendship, family, and forgiveness. Seacoo’s parents are the only other animals he knows that can read, but his mother is always busy and story time doesn’t happen as often anymore. When a saddened Seacoo meets Coco, a beautiful red panda who shares his love of reading, he gains not only a new friend, but also a lesson about the power of forgiveness and the beauty of change.

As an independent author/publisher, Mercado started her own company, Knew Books Publishing, to produce her first children’s book, Seacoo.  She collaborated with Yifan Luo to create Seacoo’s illustrations.
