GLICA logoThe Greater Lowell Indian Cultural Association (GLICA) is hosting the 33rd Annual Bedford VA Pow Wow on Saturday, September 19th, and Sunday the 20th on the Bedford Veterans Affairs Medical Center grounds, also known as the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital. The Pow Wow coincides with the Autumnal Equinox which occurs on Wednesday, Sept. 23 this year.

This is GLICA’s biggest Pow Wow of the year. There is a chance for everyone (Native American and public) to dance and hear native drumming and singing.

Grounds open at 10 with Grand Entry around noon both days  Grand Entry is when the dancers enter in their regalia and the first traditional and ceremonial songs are played, including the first dance song which honors ALL veterans.  One of the drums is Split Feather Singers, there are often more!  Many vendors will be there selling traditional and contemporary crafts.  While some dances are exhibition, most are inter tribal and the public is encouraged to join in.

Rain or shine, this is a great event for children of all ages. Native or Not, it’s always a learning experience.  The emcee often explains the dances and many dancers and vendors are also open to answering questions. Please mark your calendars and come on out and see for yourself.

The event runs Saturday from 10 am to 5pm and Sunday from 10 am to around 4 pm.  Free admission and free camping for all.

About photography during the Pow Wow: Inside the Circle, photos are acceptable at any time EXCEPT during the songs for the Grand Entry, or when the emcee says so (some honor dances). utside the Circle? Strike up a conversation, and ask individuals if they wouldn’t mind.
