Submitted by the Bedford Department of Public Works

The Bedford Selectmen recently awarded a contract to Biszko Contracting Corp. to clean and line the water mains on Loomis Street, Railroad Avenue and South Road between Loomis Street and Great Road.  The cleaning and lining process scrapes off deposits within the water main and then applies a cement lining on the inside of the pipe to prohibit the future growth of rust.  During the project, any old galvanized water services will be replaced with copper pipe to avoid future maintenance problems.

In order to perform this work, the existing water main is taken out of service.  Temporary service pipe will be installed above ground and properties will be connected to the temporary pipe.  Hydrant connections will be set to maintain emergency fire protection throughout the project.

The work will start on Railroad Avenue so that that section is complete before school opens in September.   Summer work hours will be Monday thru Thursday, 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, weather dependent.  After Labor Day, the work will be Monday thru Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.  The roads will remain open, although minor delays around the construction site should be expected.

Bedford Water Division personnel will be overseeing this project.  Should you have any questions or need additional information, please contact the DPW at (781) 275-7605.
