DAandPDMiddlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Bedford Police Chief Robert Bongiorno have announced that as a result of a hearing [on Tuesday, July 28] in Concord District Court Vini Proeung, 20, of Lowell, and Michael Gonzalez, 21, of Lowell, will remain in custody on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault to maim, masked armed robbery, home invasion, use of a firearm in a felony, and possession of a firearm without a license. Judge Neil Hourihan ordered Proeung and Gonzalez to be held without bail until a dangerousness hearing on Monday, August 3.

Editor’s Note, from Monday’s police log: This afternoon [Bedford] police arrested 21-year-old Michael Gonzalez of Lowell for the armed home invasion incident at 40 North Rd early Wednesday morning. Gonzalez was also charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, armed robbery while masked, assault with intent to maim, firearm used in felony, possession of firearm without license and discharge of a firearm 500 feet of a dwelling. Gonzalez will be arraigned tomorrow in Concord District Court. The investigation into the incident is continuing.

“Our concern remains with the victims as they recover from this violent intrusion in the middle of the night,” said District Attorney Ryan. “Their injuries were serious enough to warrant going to the hospital and what they endured would be frightening for anyone, being surprised with noise and violence and then having to fend off an attack.”

“I commend the work of the Bedford Police detectives, our partners in Lowell and the Massachusetts State Police detectives, who have worked vigorously since this incident occurred to find and prosecute the suspects involved,” Police Chief Robert Bongiorno said. “We will continue to investigate until we have located all those connected to this case.”

On July 22, at approximately 2 a.m., the Bedford Police Department arrived at a residence in Bedford and found a man outside injured who told officers that other people were injured inside due to a home invasion. Three individuals were transported to a hospital. Officers recovered a shotgun which they believe is connected to this incident.

These charges are allegations and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

This incident is being investigated by the Bedford Police Department and Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.

The prosecutor assigned to these cases today was Assistant District Attorney Sarah Fallon. The Victim Witness Advocate was Lesia Schymonowytsh.
