Voters attending Town Meeting this fall will see a new face sitting in the front-left alongside Town Manager Rick Reed, the Finance Director and Director of Public Works. Joining them will be Branson Moss, who was appointed by the Selectmen on July 6 to serve as Bedford’s Town Counsel effective immediately. The Town Counsel provides legal services to the Town on a wide range of issues and attends town meetings to provide advice to the assembly as needed.

Moss brings experience with Bedford legal matters that will be helpful in his new role.

Since he joined the firm of Murphy, Hesse, Toomey & Lehane (MHT&L) in 2007, he has worked on many Town matters, such as zoning regulation, signage enforcement, affordable housing restrictions, and procurement. He is the third attorney from the firm to serve as Bedford’s Counsel, preceded by Robert Mangiaratti and Michael Lehane, each of whom served as Bedford Town Counsel for several years. Moss said Lehane will be available for consultation if needed.

Moss was appointed Chair of the Massachusetts Bar Association Public Law Section Council. He has served as Airport Counsel for the Norwood Airport Commission, representing them in litigation before the Federal Aviation Commission. He serves as Town Counsel for the Town of Mendon.

He earned a Bachelor of Science and Economics degree at George Washington University, graduating cum laude. He continued at George Washington to complete his law degree in 2003.
