After a long, hot, month of baseball, Bedford Baystate D won on the road in Andover on Monday in a must-win game to earn the final spot in the D division Tournament of Champions. Bedford ended the regular season with a 6-4 record, good for 8th place in the 21-team division, joining an field of teams from some traditional powerhouse larger towns in the Elite Eight- Arlington, Framingham, Reading, Brookline, Billerica, Medford, and Maynard/Stow.
On July 29, at Donnelly Field in Cambridge, the littlest Bucs took the field against a top-seeded and undefeated Arlington team in the Tournament of Champions (ToC). Playing excellent defense and putting over a dozen runners on base, the Bucs left it all on the line but came out on the wrong end of a 6-3 final score.
It’s quite an accomplishment for any team to make the ToC, especially from a small town like Bedford, so congratulations to the Baystate D team for an incredible summer season. After three-plus months of spring and summer baseball, these boys have earned a well-deserved vacation from baseball until the fall season gets going in September.
