The Bedford High School DECA chapter has been working hard to prepare for our upcoming State Conference held March 12th through 14th at the Boston Marriott Copley.

The Massachusetts State Career Development Conference is the pinnacle of the DECA year. Filled with competition and leadership activities, there is also plenty of entertainment which gets planned into the three day conference, such as key note speakers and various performances.

BHS will be among the 2,400 Massachusetts DECA students who qualified this year. This year BHS has 21 students who qualified to compete at the State Competition. In order to prepare for the event, students have been completing practice exams and role plays for their specific categories. The categories Bedford will be competing in include Apparel and Accessories Marketing, Business Finance, Business Law & Ethics, Buying and Merchandising, Financial Services, Sports & Entertainment Marketing, Travel & Tourism Marketing, and Entrepreneurship.

Students will be competing individually or in teams of two. For the competition some students will have already submitted a written paper, business plan or performed market research and will have to present their findings to the panel judges. Students who do not complete a paper will have to take a 100 question exam and then pitch their case study solutions to the judges.

Additionally, members of the club have fundraised locally in hopes of earning the amount of money necessary to compete at the competition. We thank local businesses Bedford Jewelers, Steve’s House of Pizza, Chipotle, b.good and Bobcat of Boston for their generous donations to our club.

We would greatly appreciate any other donations to help our fundraising efforts. If you are interested in helping us raise money please visit our gofundme link at https://www.gofundme.com/BedfordDECA
