Bedford High School Announces Hall of Fame Athletes

Nine student-athletes and a championship team have been selected for membership in the Bedford High School Sports Hall of fame; they will be honored at an induction ceremony and awards dinner on April 11.

The honorees and some of their credentials are:

Jennifer Champney
Class of 2006:  1,000-point career in basketball and soccer for both Bedford High and Wheaton College, qualifier for state high jump, captain in basketball, field hockey, track.

Gerry Cohen
Class of 2008:  Four-year basketball starter, three-time Dual County League basketball MVP, named to Boston Globe all-scholastic 2008, second leading all-time scorer at BHS.

Joe LaDow
Class of 1972: three-year starter and two-year all-star in football, two-year starter and all-star in basketball, distinguished career as local firefighter and life-saving emergency medical technician.

Terrance Favors
Class of 2008:  Four-year varsity basketball, DCL and Boston Herald all-scholastic  2008, New England Collegiate Conference player-of-the-year at Becker College 2012, second all-time scoring leader at Becker, current swingman for South Florida Spartans developmental team.

Jonathan Gault
Class of 2009:  Second in Division 2 state two-mile, third in state Division 2 cross-country 2008,  Eastern Massachusetts Division 4 cross-country champion 2008, Boston Globe, Boston Herald (twice)  all- scholastic, successful distance running career at Dartmouth College,.

Liam Hurley
Class of 1990:  Leading rebounder, second-leading scorer as a senior on 16-5 basketball team, league all-star in basketball and soccer, number one singles player in tennis.

John Isnor
Class of 1982:  League MVP in hockey as a junior, and a golfer and all-star two-way football player whose high school career ended with a serious injury on a punt return in October 1980.

Vin McGrath
Class of 1998:  Multiple-year all-star in football, establishing 40-year school passing records; also played basketball and baseball, quarterback at Merrimack College, assistant football and basketball coach at BHS for past decade.

Colleen Strachan
Class of 2008: A three-sport captain (soccer, basketball, lacrosse) and six-time league all-star, fifth-leading all-time scorer in lacrosse at Merrimack College, female scholar-athlete of the year 2011. Girls’ cross-country team, 1974, league and district champion, second place in state meet.

Induction dinner and ceremonies are scheduled for Saturday evening, April 11, beginning at 6 p.m. at the American Legion hall, 357 The Great Road, Bedford. Information on tickets is available from Keith Mangan, BHS director of athletics (781-275-1700, press 7).
