February 24, 2015

Reported remotely by Meredith McCulloch

SelectmenThe Capital Expenditures Committee recommended Article 13, a Capital Budget on the Town Meeting warrant totaling $4,294,804, to the Selectmen on February 17.

The article included 53 items, ranging from $9769 for a copier to $753,962 for water main improvements.  Other big ticket items are $378,100 for a new town-wide telephone system, $310,900 for a street lighting upgrade to LED, $192,577 for vehicle replacement, and $250,000 for school technology. The entire list with descriptions of the projects may be found in the front of the Town Meeting warrant, which will be mailed to each residence shortly.

Selectman Bill Moonan, the Selectmen’s liaison to the Capital Expenditures Committee, reported that the Finance Committee supported the entire article.  He went on to say that the combination of the recently acquired software for tracking the town’s capital investments and staff cooperation have allowed a much-improved process. He also commended Capital Expenditures for deciding to meet monthly throughout the year, rather than waiting until fall, as has been the custom.

The Selectmen voted unanimously to recommend to the Town Meeting that the capital article be approved.
