“The History of Our Landscape: Massachusetts’ Land and Wildlife” will be the topic of the next Bedford Historical Society guest speaker on Wednesday evening, Feb. 25 in Fellowship Hall of the First Church of Christ, Congregational, 25 The Great Rd.

Former Sudbury Valley Trustees Executive Director Ron McAdow will describe the evolution of our landscape, the indigenous plant and wildlife of our region, and discuss how those flora and fauna impact on preservation, conservation and biodiversity.

The public is invited to join Bedford Historical Society members for this interesting presentation, starting at 7:15 pm with refreshments and a social period.   After brief announcements at 7:45 pm, Mr. McAdow will begin his slide presentation, which also will touch on the dramatic changes that have occurred in the four centuries since Europeans arrived in the New World.  The program will end around 9 pm.

Mr. McAdow retired from the Sudbury Valley Trustees (SVT) in 2013, after a successful 10-year association with this land conservation organization that serves Bedford and other suburbs west of Boston.  While there, he almost doubled SVT’s annual contributions (to close to $1 million), worked with others to acquire and protect 1,593 acres of conservation land, and oversaw the management of 20 land reservations open to the public.

He is the author of the book, “The Concord, Sudbury, and Assabet Rivers: A Guide to Canoeing, Wildlife, and History.”  A native of Illinois and a graduate of the University of Chicago, he resides in Lincoln.  Mr. McAdow is now working as a freelance writer and editor.  Before distinguishing himself at SVT, he worked as an instructional media content developer, a math and science teacher and a filmmaker.
