Voters should be aware that under our Charter any voter may place an article on the Town Meeting warrant by collecting ten signatures from registered Bedford voters.
The upcoming deadline for petitioner’s articles is the second Monday in January, which is January 12. 2015.
If a citizen requires assistance in drafting the article, there is a moderator appointed committee that can assist them. The Town Manger’s office can provide contact information.
Relevant sections from the Town Charter:
- Section 2-7 Petitioners’ Warrant Articles Petitioners’ warrant articles shall be submitted to the Selectmen in written form. Ten signatures shall be required on a petition to have an article inserted in the warrant for an Annual Town Meeting, and one hundred signatures shall be required on a petition to have an article inserted in a warrant for a Special Town Meeting.
- Section 2-8 Petitioners’ Advisory Committee The Moderator shall appoint an advisory committee of three persons to aid petitioners requesting assistance in preparing warrant articles. Appointees shall serve for a term of one year and shall be attorneys or persons otherwise qualified by virtue of their experience in town government.
what would the tax impact be if BRIDGE STREET were Ever to be Accepted as a Town Way ?? So that we could quit being treated as 2nd class citizens… They sure Like the color of my Tax-Checks… Just Asking, Joseph Damery 1 Bridge Street..
I’m not understanding how the Town can say it’s not a Town Way Joseph? Up until 1971 there were homes and what appears to be a race track/pony ring on the other side of the “bridge” where the closest office building is. Clearly this looks like somewhere in the last 40 years the town dropped the ball on Bridge Street.
