Paintings by Wellesley water media artist and teacher Nan Rumpf are at the Bedford Public Library gallery until January 7.
Nan calls herself a water media artist because she uses water and various forms of color–watercolors, acrylic paint, ink–to create abstract, colorful paintings. She experiments with surfaces as they interact with each other.
“After the first experimental layer, I walk around the painted surface and look at it from different sides until I see something that I want to emphasize or see a shape that I want to develop. Sometimes a theme begins to present itself and I go with it. Making one change often strongly suggests the next. I am attempting to capture the essence of form, shape, color and value from my observations, memories, and imaginings and to explore new artistic territories.
Rumpf currently teaches art classes and workshops at the Danforth Museum School in Framingham, and experimental watercolor workshops at the Concord Art Association. To learn more, visit www.nanrumpf.com.
