A projected Massachusetts Air National Guard flyover of five F-15 fighter jets from Barnes Air National Guard Base in Westfield, MA, has been rescheduled for Thursday, November 13. This morning’s event was scrubbed because of poor visibility and fog.
The jets are expected to “buzz” Hanscom Field and Bedford at 8:10 am on Thursday, flying at an altitude of just 1,000 feet.
Sleeping late may not be an option for Bedfordites tomorrow morning, but sports fans attending Fenway Park or Gillette Stadium may have heard the sound before: The same planes provide ceremonial flyovers at the start of playoff or World Series games.
According to an item on WCVB-TV’s website, “The flyover is part of a planned media event, the National Guard said. ‘Photographs will be taken of the F-15 fighter jets in formation for the nationally published National Guard magazine to promote Massachusetts as the birthplace of the National Guard,’ said Lt. Col. James Sahady, spokesman for the Massachusetts National Guard.”
The flights, coordinated through the Federal Aviation Administration, will also visit Salem; Boston, including the Massachusetts State House and Fenway Park; Norwood Airport; Gillette Stadium; Cape Cod; Nantucket; and Martha’s Vineyard.
