About the Carlisle Chamber Orchestra

The Carlisle Chamber Orchestra is a newly formed chamber ensemble of approximately 35 accomplished musicians, dedicated to the performance of works for small orchestra. When the term “orchestra” is used, most people think of a full symphonic orchestra with large percussion and brass sections.  In earlier musical history, many great composers of the past, especially during the Baroque and Classical periods, wrote for orchestra with a small chamber orchestra in mind. This included composers such as Bach, Handel, Vivaldi, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert and their contemporaries.

Although the orchestra has been formed by musicians with the desire to play challenging music, the musicians also feel an obligation to make the music programming accessible to a mainstream audience, in the hopes of becoming an integral and indispensable part of the fabric of the community.  Affordable concerts will feature artists and programs with music that is interesting to an audience of all ages and feature the talents of local musicians in concertos.

Conductor Alan Yost has served as the music director for local musical productions, including three fully staged operas, and special events at the performing arts center in Concord, MA. Alan has conducted many concerts of chamber music with the Concord Ensemble and the Minuteman Chamber Orchestra, and in the last several years has been engaged as guest conductor for the Evergreen, Jefferson, and Longmont Symphony Orchestras in Colorado
